Silver Secateurs

The national Silver Secateurs Grape Vine Pruning Competition has been run in conjunction with the Romeo Bragato conference, the wine and grape industry’s major annual technical conference, since 1995. Fruitfed Supplies has been a sponsor of Silver Secateurs for several years.

The Silver Secateurs competition recognises grapevine pruning is an integral management practice required for quality wines. The competition aims to recognise the skills of New Zealand pruners and encourage a high standard of grapevine pruning. Entrants are selected from the wine growing regions in New Zealand where regional competitions are run to determine who can compete in the Silver Secateurs final.

There are three separate events including:

  • individual pruning
  • individual tying
  • teams event

Information about Silver Secateurs regional and national competitions will be posted in the events section of our website as it becomes available from regional grape growers’ associations.
