Herbicides
Weed control options for all crops
Selective vs. non-selective, pre-emergent vs. post-emergent, and systemic vs. contact – the variety of herbicides on the market is extensive. Then, if you take into account the ways in which specific herbicides can be combined to control unwanted grasses, volunteer onions, broadleaf weeds, mallows, thistles, buttercups, etc., you probably need to talk to the team at Fruitfed Supplies.
Our field and branch representatives receive ongoing training regarding safe and effective use and storage of herbicides. We recommend you also check product use with your exporter, where applicable.
Herbicides can be defined by activity:
- Contact herbicides destroy only the plant tissue in contact with the chemical. Generally, these are the fastest acting.
- Systemic herbicides are translocated through the plant, either from foliar application down to the roots, or from soil application up to the leaves. Capable of controlling perennial plants; may be slower acting but ultimately more effective than contact herbicides.
Or by use:
- Soil-applied herbicides are applied to the soil and are taken up by the roots of the target plant.
- Pre-plant incorporated herbicides are applied and incorporated into soil prior to planting.
- Pre-emergent herbicides are applied to the soil before the crop emerges and prevent germination or early growth of weed seeds.
- Post-emergent herbicides are applied after the crop has emerged.
Or by mode of action, such as ACCase inhibitors, ALS inhibitors, EPSPS inhibitors, Synthetic auxins and Photosystem II inhibitors.
The herbicides distributed exclusively by Fruitfed Supplies are listed below, but we have many more available in-store. See our branch location page for contact details.
